Temporary disability is part of standard indemnity benefits. You can apply for these short-term benefits when you cannot perform your duties due to an injury.
Follow these steps to get through your temporary disability application process.
See if you are eligible
To receive temporary disability benefits, you must be eligible. That means that you:
- Could not work for more than one-week straight
- Lost wages due to an injury, illness or other disability
- Were employed or applying to jobs when you injured yourself
Make sure you check to see if you are eligible before starting your application.
File your claim
You have two ways to submit your claim. You can do so online or by filling out a form and mailing it in. You can find more information on both of these online.
Get a medical certification
Your doctor must document your disability by giving it a medical certification. You are responsible for getting your doctor to fill out the right form and submit it within the deadline. This is the final portion of your claim submission.
Receive your eligibility determination
Once your indemnity benefit application is complete, you will receive your determination. It will take at least two weeks before you see your determination. The time it takes will vary based on the type of claim you have. If you need to submit more information on request, it can take more than two weeks.
If you fall ill or get injured at work, you need to fill out a temporary disability application. That will ensure that you receive compensation and the time necessary to heal.
